King Kongcorde

Today is 2nd March, and it’s the anniversary of three very different but surprisingly connected moments:

🎂 The birth of Dr. Seuss (1904)
🦍 The New York release of King Kong (1933)
✈️ The first test flight of Concorde (1969, Toulouse)

Let’s begin with a question.

❓ Quiz Question

Where was Dr. Seuss born?

A) New York
B) Springfield
C) Boston
D) Chicago

(Answer at the end.)

🧠 SNAP: Kong & Concorde

King Kong.
Concorde.

Even the words snap together rhythmically.

Both are about scale.
Both are about height.
Both are about spectacle.

🔎 ZOOM: The Iconic Image

The most famous scene in King Kong?

The great ape at the top of the Empire State Building, fighting off aeroplanes above Manhattan.

Vertical ambition.
Primal force versus technology.
Sky versus stone.

Now add Concorde — the most elegant supersonic aircraft ever built — and suddenly the mental image becomes… complicated.

New York.
Tall buildings.
Aircraft.

We don’t need to explain why that imagery is loaded.

So we pivot.

🐱 SNAP Again: From Cat in the Hat to Catania

Dr. Seuss gives us:

🎩 The Cat in the Hat

Cat.

Catania.

And suddenly we MOVE to Sicily.

🌋 New Setting: Mount Etna

Instead of Manhattan:

Mount Etna
Catania

Snow at the summit.
Steam rising.
A hint of eruption.

King Kong stands at the top of Etna wearing the red-and-white striped hat.

He reaches into the Sicilian sky and grabs Concorde.

Now we have:

  • Height ✔

  • Drama ✔

  • Spectacle ✔

  • No loaded skyline ✔

And something else…

Suspense.

🤔 Next?

If Kong has Concorde in one hand
And Etna is beginning to stir

Who saves the day?

A) The Cat
B) The Pilot
C) Nature itself?

✅ Quiz Answer

Dr. Seuss was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. (circular move to Concord, MA)

And now we wait…

Does Kong drop the plane?
Does Etna erupt fully?
Does the Cat intervene?

To be continued. 🚆
